What with all pedal to the metal, full throttle as it were, creating what is now available, the very idea of ‘marketing’ the Ambition Omnibus took second seat. Until I had the inspiration to create a video that would hopefully be totally different from any other, in advertising a magic tutorial course, or product within the magic community.
Whatever your passion is, I’m sure you have seen many videos advertising a relevant
product, well, with magic it all seems to follow the same pattern and formula.
A tease into it, pack shot or distributors logo, opening up into an atmospheric sojourn leading to the effect being shown to a very receptive grouping of people, followed by a decided call to action (CTA as they say in marketing circles).
Some of the productions are true to the effect or prop being sold. In that there are no camera cutaways, or use of editing to disguise an important part of the set up, and the audiences reactions are real.
Then there are videos produced that are the complete opposite. Schmick videos for sure, with all the right formula, but on buying and having it delivered, the prop, routine, or effect is totally unworkable as seen in the video. There are some main culprits of this…allegedly…which is neither here or there for now, but it does leave a bad taste and is bad form. Trust in advertising i paramount if you are to have a continual relationship with a customer.
So it was with this background that I chose to do something that I considered totally different. And without overthinking it all, it seems to have captured the zeitgeist of the moment. Especially given that the world is in lock down or has been…
